An autumn grocery in progress...

It's been a while...but I'm back. Slow but sure, as my arthritic hands and fingers will allow. In the meantime I've been enjoying the updates and totally awesome work featured on many of your blogs. Inspiring!

I've started to put together this little scene for fall - like an old time grocer setting. Starting with pumpkins, and some corn, and some fruits and veggies....soon I'll fill the counters and baking tables with cakes and pies and other autumn treats.

Stay tuned :) I've got a ways to go yet to finish this.

Field Trip to Lynlott Miniatures in Pittsburgh!

On our way back from 4th of July holiday we had the chance to stop at Lynlott Miniatures just outside Pittsburgh. I've wanted to check this place out ever since I found them on the Internet a few months ago (www.dollhousejunction.com). It was definitely worth making the pit stop. I usually order mini accessories online because I'm not always able to travel. And brick and mortar mini-stores are getting rarer and rarer these days. But every once in a while I want to see the minis in real time and hold them and pour over them for a while. Plus, you can't beat the friendly customer service. :) So I just had to give them a shout out.

Check out some of these neat little minis:

I found a glass cake stand with a cover that is large enough to hold my 1:12 scale frosted cakes! I can't wait to craft a pastry for this one.

More Red, White, and Blue Desserts!

If you've ever harvested fresh berries of any kind in the summer you know how they all seem to pop out and ripen all at once. Oodles and oodles of glistening red and black berries; plump crimson red strawberries, and sugary sweet peaches that melt in your mouth when you take a bite. The minute we spot the raspberries and blackberries starting to turn on the bushes in our woods we grab some bowls and start picking before the deer and the birds take more than their fair share. The problem is, what the heck do I do with all these berries and fresh fruits once they start overtaking every inch of counter space in my kitchen?

Easy -  make desserts! Or pink lemonades, regular lemonades, any kind of fruit-ade for that matter. Summer is so much fun because the refreshing fruits make so many delicious desserts and drinks that make them the best way to beat the sweltering heat. Sweet.

Here are a few more tables and cupboards I've completed for the big bang Fourth of July spectacular that I'm currently working on....enjoy. :) Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Liquid resin raspberry lemonade - it worked!

Shooting stars! Red, white & blue macaroons and cupcakes.

I finally figured out the peeled orange technique! Yay!!!

Life's a bowl of berries! Cherries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries! Yum!

Watermelon - good to the taste, messy to cut.
My first attempt with whole peaches (bowl on the right)..probably could use a tad more red shading so they don't look too much like oranges. I'll have to try the peach again.

Another closeup of my peeled oranges! Sorry to toot my own horn so much with these silly oranges, but it gives me such an artistic high when I finally master a new  technique. My first attempts (last winter) were so hideous I didn't try them again for six months! And these can still use some fine tuning, I'll keep practicing till they're perfect. :)
