I've certainly done plenty of kvetching about my health (or, lack thereof)..sore and painful joints, difficulty walking, and the overall drop dead exhaustion that kept me away from mini making for months (definitely NOT a good thing for my mind either because miniatures make me sooooo gosh darn happy). My very active lifestyle, a vital piece of my former self, evaporated before my very eyes as complications set in and worsened over the last two years, and somewhere along the line...I rediscovered minis and polymer clay.
For more than a decade I've ridden the roller coaster of complications caused by several autoimmune diseases, and
lupus is one of them. Over this last year especially it's been kicking my butt!! Then it hit me (an idea, not the lupus ;). May is
Lupus Awareness Month! Time to put on the purple. So I had an eensy ounce of energy and I decided, heck yeah! Let's make a couple of awesome purple desserts!
|
Purple purple everywhere! Vanilla cupcakes with purple tinted frosting... |
|
Purple macaroons, purple checkerboard shortbread, and a yummy vanilla layer cake adorned with purple and white flowers. |
|
Here's to more treatment options and research, better and faster diagnostics, and a much better quality of life for lupus sufferers everywhere. :) |
Una buena idea, concienciar a la gente con tu fantastico trabajo purpura, me encanta.

Hi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing to do!!
I've also spent nearly a decade living with auto-immune disease and It was a wonderful thing when I found miniatures as it feels so great to still be able to achieve things, each mini project is like a mini triumph and minis make me happy too :)
Your purple cakes are all gorgeous!!
Hugs
Vicky xxxx
Lovely work, Jackie! You are doing such a fine job with your minis, despite the fact that this has taken such a huge physical and emotional toll on you. I admire your strength and determination. Thanks so much for raising awareness and educating us.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs!
Thank you so much ladies! :)Vicky my heart goes out to you. Autoimmune diseases are so complex, hard-to-diagnose, and after you finally do get the diagnosis they've often done considerable damage and managing the symptoms is like an uphill battle every day. Yes, miniatures are our "sanity" and our "clarity" - they help us get through the days. Beverly thank you so much, your thoughts are much appreciated and I just loved reading your comments. Makes me so happy. :)
ReplyDeleteMy best to all of you - keep making your wonderful minis, no matter how down and out I might feel on any given day, looking through your blogs and seeing all of your amazing work is so uplifting to me.
Hugs to everyone!!!
Jackie

Hello Jackie, a beautiful idea, sorry about your health problems, my mother has diabetes and this led to blindness and kidney are now engaged .... and my cousin has Multiple Sclerosis, both of these autoimmune diseases are also .... I am also suffering from a chronic autoimmune ... but not too bad, but that's life and we have to move on, always fighting. Thank you for you being so wonderful and you realizares work so fantastic! I wish you many good things and many kisses in your heart.
ReplyDeleteCris I am so sorry for you and your family members as well. The researchers say autoimmunity is a "family affair" and it certainly seems to work out that way. :( My best to you, and your mother and your cousin. Many kisses in all of your hearts (I love that sentiment btw :)Here's to enjoying all the good things life gives us, especially the minis, and we'll just have to keep on fighting the good fight!
DeleteThank you so much for your lovely comments!
Hugs! xoxoxo

Unfortunately, life has in store for us this or that disease. Someone worse, someone less bad. It is best if we can beat them and show that we are even stronger than we are and we are able to do many things! Very interesting are the purple cakes:)) The day after tomorrow in Paris will be available! :) Great work and unique colors! greeting ANDA

Your minis are fantastic...I love all the purple...I hope your Lupus is manageable and that you are not in too much pain. I love minis, too, but haven't been working on them too much lately. I have so many ideas and not enough time to do them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jean - I follow your blog too, A Romantic Country Home - the pictures are so stunning! I hope you have some time in the near future to get back into your minis. They can be such a lovely distraction when we have the time to dabble in them. :D
