Rainbow Party Cake

Hmmmm.....is it real???

Or is it polymer clay? :)

The first cake above, as you probably already guessed by the way we hacked into this yummy confection, is the real rainbow cake that my daughters love to have to celebrate their birthdays. I thought it might be fun to re-create this very colorful rainbow cake slathered with rich, buttercream icing, in miniature.

And yet another fun celebration cake! A confetti cake! Covered with pastel pink fondant icing. It fits perfectly under the dome of one of my smaller glass cake stands.

The daisies on top give the cake a springtime feel.

Cupcake Craze!

More cupcakes! These little cuties sport paper cupcake liners.

Stuffing empty liners inside the measuring cup helps maintain the shape without fanning out flat, while you work on other things.

Part of the cupcake prep area.
Chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles? Anyone?
Or, lemon raspberry?

Mile High Cakes

It's freaky Friday the 13th and I'm totally psyched about this weather! Very dry, moderate temperatures give me a brief reprieve from my severe arthritis troubles. The stiffness is a...oh...7, instead of a 20 1/2 on a scale of 1 - 10 (that's not a typo btw, 20 1/2 - my flexibility and discomfort gets THAT disabling). So I'm making as many minis as I can before another flare drags me down and then it's days, weeks, and then months before I am physically able to post again.

What's that ancient Latin phrase again? Carpe diem? Yepperoni, I think that's it - So I will indeed "seize the day"!

Today's project - cakes. Yellow, strawberry, and chocolate (my favorite)! These extra tall 4 layer confections will be included in my project for the silent auction. Eek! Only a couple weeks away now! Slow but steady will win this race. ;) And more dry weather so I can keep moving.

Candy and fruit toppings! M & Ms, raspberries, and dark chocolate curls.

It all started with this one...

The displays for the project are shaping up nicely...but I'll probably change them around, I always do. :)

A Mini Cupcake Parade

Still workin' these cupcakes. Looks like I might wind up having enough for the silent auction piece I'm working on for the school carnival. After weeks grappling these itty bitty cakes with some very shaky hands, I finally created enough to fill the ranks of a miniature cupcake parade! (Well...that's what they look like to me when I lined them up on tiles to sort them out by toppings and decorations. :)

I love glass cake stands - bought these last year, finally filled them!

Oh oh - "naked" yellow cupcakes. :) Quick! Get the frosting!

Strawberry frosting with tiny strawberry slices on top - I'm finally getting better at these fruit canes!

Yellow cupcakes - all frosted!

Rounding up all these pesky little cupcakes, took all afternoon...

Sorting them this way helps me to visually "count" how many I have...

OMG - it's a cupcake parade! Right then and there, The Music Man's signature song  Seventy-Six Trombones popped right into my head :)

Spring Cupcakes

Back from Easter weekend...hope everyone had a great springtime holiday! :)

I'm donating some minis to the silent auction at our elementary school carnival in a few weeks - 1:12 scale kitchen cupboards filled with cupcakes, cakes, pies, cookies, and breads. And whatever else I think of (maybe a few prep boards). The arthritis slows my hands down, a LOT, so I'm getting an early start. Cupcakes are the teeniest, and probably the most painstaking to work with, EVER, especially when it comes to applying the frosting.

Chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting, some topped with fruit, some with sugar rose petals. Hmmm....the camera closeups reveal some specs of cornstarch leftover on the cupcake bases. Oh well, I'll dust those off tomorrow. :)

Next I'll whip up some vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkle toppings...stay tuned! And thanks for following. :)
